King Michael I Park / Herăstrău
Also widely known as Herăstrău Park, this green space surrounds a lake in northern Bucharest. Combine a waterside walk with the neighbouring Village Museum, or leave time here for a relaxed change of pace from the historic centre.

What to expect
The lake gives this northern park a different feel from the compact gardens of the city centre. Pick a manageable section of the waterside paths, or pair the park with the Village Museum for a day focused on open air and rural heritage. Herăstrău remains a useful name to recognise on older maps and local recommendations.
A suggested way to explore
Choose one section of the lake and decide where you want to finish before setting off. Pair the walk with the Village Museum if rural heritage interests you, or enjoy the park on its own as a slower afternoon outside the centre.
Planning your visit
Check your intended entrance and return route before setting out: a lakeside walk can become longer than expected. Bring sun protection and water in warm weather.
Allow a leisurely park session; combining it with the Village Museum can fill much of a day. This is a planning suggestion rather than an official visit duration.
Check the current visitor arrangements for your date before setting out. Opening information, accessible spaces and any ticket requirements can change. If you want a guided experience, confirm its language, route, start point and cancellation terms directly with the provider.
Getting there and choosing a base
Check the park entrance nearest your chosen activity. The site is large enough that two routes labelled “Herăstrău” may bring you to different edges of the park.
For journeys within Bucharest, check Metrorex for the metro and STB for buses, trams and trolleybuses. Choose a ticket that covers the services you plan to use and follow the operator’s payment and validation instructions.
Where to stay
A hotel in the north may suit a trip focused on this area, while a central base suits a broader first visit. Compare both with your airport and city connections.
Compare the exact address, transport connections and recent guest feedback before booking. Travellers who need step-free access should confirm both the property’s facilities and the route to the attraction.
What to combine with this visit
The Village Museum and a separate visit to Ceaușescu House.
Use the surrounding area to give the day variety: one main visit, an outdoor walk and a meal often make a more comfortable itinerary than several consecutive timed bookings.
