Therme Bucharest: Pools, Saunas and Visitor Guide

Therme Bucharest is a large indoor-outdoor wellness and water complex just north of the capital, with thermal pools, family water slides, tropical gardens, saunas and relaxation spaces. It works as a rainy-day attraction, a family outing or a full day of rest. Choose your access area before you arrive, reserve the time you need, and check the official schedule because facilities and admission rules can change.

A tropical-style break outside the city

Therme Bucharest is in Balotești on the DN1, north of central Bucharest and near Henri Coandă International Airport. Its warm indoor pools and landscaped areas make it an all-season attraction. The complex combines water-based recreation with thermal and wellness facilities, restaurants and outdoor areas; a visit is ticketed and usually requires several hours.

Think of it as a destination in its own right, not a quick stop between city sights. Allow time to travel, enter, change, understand the wristband system and move between areas. Weekend and holiday periods can be busy, and the official site displays occupancy information.

Choose between Galaxy, The Palm and Elysium

  • Galaxy: The family-oriented area, with slides, a wave pool and children’s water-play facilities. The operator’s current rules set age, height and swimming requirements for individual attractions; check each sign.
  • The Palm: A more relaxation-focused area with pools, tropical planting and places to unwind. It can suit adults and older children looking for a quieter pace than the slide zone.
  • Elysium: The sauna and wellness-focused area, with additional saunas, pools and panoramic relaxation spaces. Check age/access conditions and whether your selected ticket includes it.

Areas and ticket upgrades have different prices and access rules. Review the current admission page before choosing; a base ticket does not necessarily include every area or treatment. Massage, special sauna rituals, food, drinks, towel and robe hire may cost extra.

Tickets, opening hours and how long to allow

Opening hours change by weekday, season and special dates, and facilities may close before the complex. Check the live schedule on the official opening-hours page before booking. Compare the current admission prices for Galaxy, The Palm and Elysium, and check included duration, extra-time charges and any area-upgrade cost.

The official FAQ says online tickets are chosen for a visit date and duration; it also describes dedicated counters for online purchases. Buying in advance can help you settle your plan. Keep the QR code available on your phone or printed and follow staff instructions at arrival.

For a first visit, allow at least four to five hours if you want to use more than one zone; a full-day ticket suits a slower visit. Build in time for showering, changing, meal breaks and checkout. The wristband tracks access and purchases, which are settled when you leave.

What to bring and the main rules

Pack swimwear, a towel, flip-flops and a change of clothes. Towels and bathrobes may be available to rent, and swimwear accessories can be bought on site; verify current options and prices. Bring a waterproof case only if allowed in the pools, and follow signs about phones and photography.

Therme requires guests to shower before entering the relaxation zones. The complex uses a wristband for changing-room access and purchases. Food and drink rules apply, and visitors must obey safety signs, especially on slides. Some slides have age, height or swimming requirements; people who cannot swim should not use attractions that require swimming. Alcohol or drugs are incompatible with use of the facilities. Read the official rules and regulations before you go.

Allow extra time to orient yourself: choose a meeting point if your group plans to split up, keep the wristband secure, and agree how you will pay for extras. Check what is included in your ticket and how additional purchases are settled at checkout.

How to get to Therme Bucharest

By public bus: Therme’s official FAQ lists STB line 442 between Piața Presei Libere and Therme, with a stop at Henri Coandă Airport. Check the current timetable and stops through STB’s line 442 information on the day of travel; service can be affected by traffic.

By car or taxi: The complex is beside DN1 in Balotești, north of the city. Follow signs for Therme and use the designated visitor car park. Traffic on DN1 can be heavy at peak times and weekends, so leave a buffer, especially if you have a timed plan or a flight connection.

From the airport: The airport is on the 442 route, but confirm the current direction, stop and journey time. If you have luggage or a tight schedule, a pre-booked taxi or ride may be simpler. Therme is an outing rather than an airport lounge, so allow plenty of time before any departure.

Families, age limits and accessibility

Families should check the official age and height limits for each slide and the ticket options for children. The operator says children under three enter free with proof of age; current terms may change, so confirm before visiting. Children under 14 have more limited access options according to the FAQ, while older students may need valid identification for a student rate.

Accessibility varies by area and attraction. Contact Therme directly for current step-free routes, changing facilities, pool access and support for guests with special needs. The official admission page lists dedicated ticket information, and the operator notes some tickets must be purchased at the entrance rather than booked online. Do not assume every sauna, slide or level is accessible.

A simple first-visit plan

  1. Choose a zone and duration. Compare the official ticket options and decide whether your day is mainly family slides, relaxed pools or saunas.
  2. Check opening times and transport. Confirm the date-specific schedule, occupancy, bus service or driving route.
  3. Arrive ready. Keep your QR code handy, collect your wristband, change and shower before entering the water areas.
  4. Set a comfortable pace. Take breaks, follow slide rules, and check activity schedules if you want a guided sauna ritual or class.
  5. Allow time for checkout. Settle any wristband purchases and leave time to travel back to Bucharest or the airport.
