Romania’s Czech Villages: A Different Side of Banat
The Czech villages of Banat offer a rewarding way to explore Romania’s cultural variety. Ravensca, also known as Rovensko, and Eibenthal belong to this rural heritage, but they are separate destinations. Choose one as a base instead of trying to visit every village in a day.

Make time for the experience
1. Settle into one village
Book accommodation first, then ask your host about arrival, meals and a short introductory walk. Village streets, churches and the surrounding agricultural landscape are the starting point; these are working communities rather than open-air exhibits.
2. Give a walk its own day
Use the regional tourism resource to choose a route that matches your fitness and the weather. Confirm the return journey if the walk finishes in a different village. A walking route and a driving route can take very different amounts of time.
3. Make room for food and conversation
Ask what meals can be prepared locally and whether a village or craft visit can be arranged. Dietary requirements and vegetarian meals are best discussed in advance. Permission matters when photographing people, homes and work.
Before you go
Arrange the final approach with your accommodation provider. Do not assume a direct bus, a taxi waiting on arrival or a suitable road for every vehicle.
Download your route before departure, carry water and keep to agreed paths. Ask local hosts about livestock, dogs and current conditions rather than relying on a forum post from a previous season.
Our photograph shows the church in Eibenthal. It illustrates that village specifically, not Ravensca.
