Păltiniș Mountain Resort
Choose Păltiniș for a day among conifer forests, a planned mountain walk or a winter ski outing. The most useful first decision is how active you want the day to be: a resort stroll and a longer marked trail need different amounts of time, equipment and daylight.

A forest resort with historic roots
The county tourism account dates the resort’s foundation by the Transylvanian Carpathian Society, SKV, to 1894. It places Păltiniș at about 1,442 metres in the Cindrel Mountains. Forests, open pastures and marked trails make the setting attractive beyond the ski season.
A shorter cultural stop is the Păltiniș hermitage, near the resort entrance. The county describes its timber church as dating from 1925–1927, with philosopher Constantin Noica’s grave nearby. For a visit, the published advice is to contact the abbot; the listed number is +40 761 784 424, and the payment arrangement is described as a donation.
Confirm access rather than expecting a museum-style daily schedule. Around the resort, a gentle walk and a café stop can form a complete outing without adding a summit excursion.
Choose a marked walk that fits your day
The Anii Drumeției Găujoara circuit is listed as an easy circular route, 8.36 km with 297 metres of ascent. Its published walking time is 2 hours 35 minutes, excluding the extra time you may want for pauses. The route starts and finishes at the foot of the Oncești ski slope and is marked with a blue circle on white.
The named circuit passes Găujoara Clearing, the Muncel forest range and Oncești Garden before returning to the resort. Download the route map and check the starting information board, weather and any local advice before departure. The site describes year-round use with suitable equipment; that does not guarantee identical conditions in every season.
For a different outing, the red-cross route to Șaua Bătrâna is listed as medium difficulty, 5.76 km and about two hours, with 445 metres of ascent. Those figures describe a route from one point to another. Add time for your return or onward plan, and do not confuse it with the blue-circle loop.
Carry water, food, layers, waterproof footwear, a charged phone and a map. Allow a daylight margin and turn back if conditions exceed your experience. Ask locally about snow and ice before a winter walk; a summer difficulty label alone is not a winter assessment.
Skiing at Păltiniș Arena
Păltiniș Arena, also known through the Arena Platoș name, offers information on slopes, ski school, equipment rental and lift passes. Its website has separate programme and price pages, so check those alongside the live slope and installation status when choosing your date.
At our October 2026 check, the homepage displayed a message about the next season and retained 2025–2026 material. We therefore do not quote that winter’s timetable or passes as confirmed prices for 2026–2027. Arrange lessons and rentals with the operator and confirm which facilities will actually run during your visit.
Bus 22 from Sibiu: times and fares
Tursib’s outward timetable lists departures from Sibiu Gară at 07:00, 11:00 and 16:00, on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. The return timetable lists Păltiniș departures at 09:00, 13:30 and 17:30. Check the operator’s page for your date and exact stop, especially around holidays or severe weather.
The official fare table lists 12 lei for one journey and 21 lei for two journeys on route 22. A separate bicycle transport ticket is 11 lei. These are Păltiniș route tickets: select the appropriate ticket rather than assuming an ordinary city ticket covers the trip.
Tursib’s April 2026 bicycle notice says loading and unloading take place at the two termini, with up to sixteen bicycles depending on size and model. Places cannot be reserved in advance. Confirm that the trailer is operating on your date before planning a cycle trip around it.
Make the return journey part of the plan
For a walking day, take an early bus, choose one route and leave a comfortable margin before the return departure. A late outward bus gives less room for a mountain walk. For a quieter visit, combine the resort streets, a confirmed hermitage visit and lunch. These are editorial suggestions, not organised tours.
The tourist information centre is listed in the resort centre, open daily 08:00–17:00, on +40 269 223 860 or office@scpaltinis.ro. It can help with local maps and visitor information; confirm opening before relying on an in-person enquiry.
