Ochiul Beiului and Beușnița: Planning Your Walk

Ochiul Beiului and Beușnița are often recommended together for their woodland and water scenery. The useful planning question is where your walk starts and ends. The national park lists several trails through the area, with very different distances, so a general place name is not enough to choose a route.

Make time for the experience

1. Pick an exact marked route

Use the park’s route directory and identify your start, finish and return transport. One published option runs from Socolari via Custura Cetății and Valea Beiului to Ochiul Beiului and Beușnița: 11 km, approximately 3.5 hours, graded medium. That published figure describes the listed route, not an automatic return trip.

2. Plan your turnaround

If returning to the same vehicle, calculate the whole outing and leave a daylight margin. Confirm how close you may currently drive and park rather than relying on an old trip report.

3. Make the landscape the main event

Allow unhurried stops at the lake and waterfall while keeping to permitted paths. Waterfall flow and the appearance of the landscape vary with conditions; photographs illustrate the place at a particular moment.

Before you go

Confirm current trails, access, charges and restrictions with the park. Its longer Podul Bei route page warns of damaged forest-road sections, so check the specific route you intend to use.

Carry water, food, suitable footwear and an offline map. For children or less experienced walkers, choose a shorter verified option rather than treating the complete route as an easy stroll.

Follow the park’s conservation rules and leave the water, plants and wildlife undisturbed.
