Nicolae Romanescu Park: Lakes, Landscaped Paths and Craiova’s Green Escape
Slow down in Craiova’s landmark landscaped park, where water, mature trees and historic features provide space for a relaxed walk between cultural visits.

A designed landscape to explore
Nicolae Romanescu Park lies in southern Craiova on the former Bibescu estate. French landscape architect Édouard Redont designed its historic landscape, bringing together paths, water and changes in relief. It is an urban park to enjoy at walking pace, with different perspectives opening up as you move through it.
The suspension bridge and lake are recognisable features, but the pleasure of a visit also comes from smaller paths and places to pause. Plan a route that suits your group’s energy rather than treating the whole park as one short circuit. Follow local signs where a feature is closed or undergoing work.

Access, facilities and seasonal conditions
Check municipal notices for works or events that could affect the entrances and paths. The park includes separate facilities and attractions, so do not assume that a general park visit guarantees entry to every building or activity. Confirm their own hours and any charges if one is central to your plans.
Choose comfortable walking shoes and allow for sun, rain or colder weather according to the season. Paths and bridge approaches may differ in gradient and surface. Visitors with limited mobility should establish a suitable entrance and route beforehand; a large landscaped park is not automatically accessible in every part.
Reaching the park from central Craiova
Plan the journey to the entrance you want to use rather than navigating only to the park’s general map marker. A centre-to-park outing needs travel time in addition to the walk inside. Compare walking, local transport and a taxi according to your accommodation location and the weather.
Drivers should confirm signed parking locally and keep entrances clear. If you use a taxi, agree a convenient pickup point for the return. A planned exit is especially useful with children or after a long walk, when retracing the entire outward route may be less appealing.
An unhurried park visit
Allow two to three hours for a first visit, including pauses. Begin near your chosen entrance, follow a route towards the lake and include the suspension-bridge area where access permits. Keep time for sitting and looking across the water rather than measuring the visit by the number of landmarks reached.
For a city-break day, pair the park with a morning museum visit and lunch. In hot weather, adjust your timing around shade and comfort. For families, select a shorter route and verify any play or leisure facilities separately instead of promising an activity from an older photograph or brochure.
Planning a comfortable day out
Bring water and arrange a meal before or after your walk; the operation of individual seasonal establishments should be checked on the day. Keep the lakeside clean and avoid feeding or disturbing birds. Stay behind barriers and supervise children around water and bridge approaches.
Choose accommodation for the complete Craiova itinerary, with straightforward transport to both central attractions and the park. For a guided outing, ask how much walking is involved, which entrances are used and whether any separately operated attractions are included. A simple independent walk also leaves you free to set your own pace.
