How to Plan Your First Three Days on Via Transilvanica

You do not need to walk the whole of Via Transilvanica to experience it. A short trip works best when three neighbouring stages fit your ability, the accommodation is confirmed and the start and finish are reachable. This is a planning framework, not a fixed trail itinerary or a claim that every stage suits beginners.

Make time for the experience

1. Choose the section before booking travel

Open the official guide and map. Compare daily distance, ascent, terrain, water and accommodation, then select three consecutive stages. A short distance with a large climb can be more demanding than a longer valley walk.

2. Build in an arrival night

Reach your starting village the day before walking if transport permits. Confirm your first meal, accommodation check-in and the next day’s weather. Ask hosts about current local issues along the chosen section.

3. Protect the final day

Keep a realistic buffer before your train, bus or flight. Arrange a transfer from the finishing village when needed; do not assume that a rural stage ends beside frequent public transport.

Before you go

Use the official guide for stage descriptions and accommodation contacts, and the official map or app for navigation. Save the relevant information offline before leaving reliable coverage.

Confirm each overnight stop, meals, drinking-water options and any luggage transfer directly. Carry what you need for a day when services are unavailable.

Choose stages for the season and your experience. Read current route alerts and local guidance about dogs, livestock and wildlife. Walk with a companion or guide if that better suits your confidence.
