Galați Natural Sciences Complex: Botanical Garden, Aquarium and Visitor Guide
Combine a botanical garden with natural-history displays and aquatic life at the Răsvan Angheluță Natural Sciences Complex. This is a flexible family stop in Galați, with different arrangements for garden visits, indoor exhibitions and astronomy activities.
Choose the sections that interest you
The complex brings together a museum, botanical garden, aquarium and astronomy facilities. Its garden was established in 1990 on an 18-hectare site. Outdoor collections include Romanian plants, a Japanese garden and useful plants. The photograph shows the garden, rather than the indoor aquarium or museum.
Treat the visit as a choice of experiences rather than a checklist to complete in one hour. Plant enthusiasts can spend longer outdoors; families may prefer a shorter garden circuit followed by an indoor section. Ask which temporary exhibitions and public displays are currently available before deciding how to divide your time.
Opening hours, tickets and entrances
The published May–October museum and aquarium schedule is Wednesday–Sunday, 10:00–18:00, with Monday and Tuesday closed. A garden-only extension announced from 26 August 2026 gives Wednesday–Sunday access from 08:30–20:30. During 08:30–10:00 and 18:00–20:30, entry is exclusively through Poarta BAC. These extended hours do not apply to the indoor sections.
Confirm the schedule for your travel date and ask which tickets cover your selected sections. A garden admission should not be assumed to include every exhibition, aquarium visit or astronomy activity. Contact the complex on +40 236 411 898 or through its official website, especially for holidays, groups and visits outside the summer timetable.
Getting there and choosing the correct gate
Use the official address, Strada Regiment 11 Siret 6A, when planning your journey. Check the actual entrance as well as the map pin: an early or late garden visit requires the BAC gate. Ask your accommodation to help identify a suitable public-transport stop or arrange a taxi to the correct approach.
For visitors using wheelchairs or pushchairs, confirm the entrance, gradients and access to the indoor sections in advance. A botanical garden may involve more walking than its position on a city map suggests. Wear comfortable shoes and bring drinking water for the outdoor part of the visit.
A relaxed half-day with children
As a suggested pace, allow two or three hours for the sections you most want to see. Start with the garden when the weather is comfortable, then move indoors if your ticket and the opening schedule allow it. Leave time to read labels, pause by planting areas and take breaks rather than rushing between sections.
If considering the planetarium, ask about show times and presentation language before buying tickets. Telescope activities also depend on weather and separate scheduling. The institution’s zoo is at Gârboavele Forest, about 17 kilometres northwest of Galați, so it requires a separate journey rather than a walk between buildings at this city site.
Where to stay and how to combine the visit
For a city break, central Galați accommodation gives you options for museums, restaurants and historic streets on another part of the day. Compare travel time to the complex, parking arrangements and family-room facilities. A car is useful for a separate countryside excursion but should not be necessary for every stop within the city.
A local guide may help connect the science visit with Galați’s river and cultural history; confirm the language, meeting point and included admissions. Check current riverfront access separately before adding a promenade walk. Keep a museum or café alternative available if weather affects your garden plans.
