Driving TransApuseana: A Scenic Day through the Apuseni

TransApuseana, the DJ107I route linking the Aiud side of Alba County with the Bucium–Abrud area, offers a different perspective on the Apuseni. Visit Alba describes a route of approximately 78 kilometres through rural landscapes and communities including Râmeț, Ponor, Mogoș and Bucium. Enjoy it as a scenic journey rather than a shortcut to rush.

Make time for the experience

1. Choose the direction around your stay

Start from the end nearest your accommodation and check the onward journey from the other end. The scenic road’s length is only part of the day if you also need a long drive back.

2. Select a few legitimate stopping places

Plan lunch and short breaks before leaving. Stop only where parking is legal and safe, keeping the road and village entrances clear. Do not assume that every attractive viewpoint has a lay-by.

3. Keep walks separate from the driving estimate

A nearby gorge, rock formation or village walk can add significant time and require different equipment. Pick one researched outing, or keep this day focused on the road and village landscape.

Before you go

Check current road conditions, weather and any restrictions before departure, particularly in winter or after severe weather. A completed road project is not a guarantee of unrestricted year-round passage.

Allow daylight for bends, unfamiliar roads and stops. Fill up or charge beforehand and avoid assuming that services are available at regular intervals along the route.

Respect homes, farming activity and hay meadows. The rural architecture is part of a lived-in landscape; ask permission before entering private property.
