Călimănești-Căciulata travel guide: thermal pools, Cozia and an Olt Valley break

Călimănești-Căciulata combines thermal-pool time with monasteries, wooded scenery and the Olt Valley. It works well as a short break when you choose a few activities carefully: a pool session, a visit to Cozia and, on another day, a suitable walk or a cultural excursion.

Understand the resort’s layout

The municipality’s geographical description places the town on both sides of the Olt, below the Cozia and Căpățânii mountains. It describes Căciulata as the northern part of Călimănești, about two kilometres from its centre. Check the precise address of your accommodation: the resort name alone does not tell you how close you will be to a particular pool or attraction.

Choose a base around the activity you most want to enjoy. A pool-focused stay benefits from convenient access to the chosen complex; a broader touring holiday needs a practical arrival point and onward transport. Ask about parking and the walking route from the property before booking.

AquaPark Cozia: published visitor prices

The operator’s AquaPark Cozia page describes indoor and outdoor thermal pools, slides and spa facilities. Its published rates for visitors staying outside the resort are 40 lei for adults and 20 lei for children aged 2–14 on Monday–Thursday; Friday–Sunday and public holidays are 50 lei and 25 lei respectively. These tickets cover three hours and thirty minutes.

The page lists extra time at 5 lei per thirty minutes for adults and 3 lei for children, and says a single-entry ticket ends when you leave the aquapark. It also describes included access for its resort guests: confirm how that applies to your particular booking. Hours differ by zone and day, so check the current section schedule and available facilities before travelling. The operator lists +40 250 750 280.

Bring swimwear and ask about towel arrangements, lockers and rules for children. Recreational bathing and prescribed treatment are different bookings; discuss any treatment package with the provider rather than assuming that a pool ticket includes consultations or procedures.

Make time for Cozia Monastery

Cozia Monastery’s official presentation identifies it as Mircea cel Bătrân’s foundation, dating its beginnings to 1386–1388. Its location at Calea lui Traian 816 makes it a clear heritage anchor for the resort itinerary.

Plan a respectful visit to the accessible grounds and church, with modest clothing and permission for interior photographs. Confirm museum access separately and allow services to determine when you enter. A monastery visit deserves its own time rather than being squeezed into the final minutes of a pool ticket.

Arutela and countryside walks

The municipality’s Arutela rehabilitation announcement places the Roman fort remains at Poiana Bivolari on the left bank of the Olt, near Cozia. It gives 30 June 2026 as the project completion date. A planned completion date is not proof that every new facility is operating: check visitor access locally before making it a fixed stop.

For walking, consult Cozia National Park’s official trail list and its visitor rules. The park requires marked routes. Choose a walk that matches the weather, daylight and your experience; a mountain route should be planned separately from a casual resort stroll.

A flexible two-day break

On day one, settle into your accommodation, visit Cozia at an appropriate time and enjoy a pool session with the ticket duration in mind. Keep lunch and transfers separate from the timed admission.

On day two, choose one countryside outing or a visit to Râmnicu Vâlcea for museums and music heritage. Confirm your transport and return journey before departure. Use the CFR Călători planner for date-specific rail options, checking the station’s position relative to your accommodation.
