Székely National Museum: Exhibitions and Visiting Guide
Visit the Székely National Museum in Sfântu Gheorghe for a closer look at regional identity, the institution’s founders and the history of Háromszék. Make time for its distinctive building and garden as well as the exhibition rooms.

Collections, exhibitions and the building
The museum’s current programme includes Milestones, an introduction to its development through selected objects, and Mrs. Cserey – 200, which explores founder Emília Zathureczky Cserey. Geniuses behind the heroes examines community mobilisation and military production in Háromszék during 1848–1849. These different themes make it worthwhile to read the introductions before choosing which rooms deserve most of your time.
Patterns of Heritage is advertised as a temporary exhibition running until 31 January 2027. It considers Székely identity and perceptions of the region; confirm its availability for your visit date. The main building and park have reopened after rehabilitation. Treat the architecture and outdoor setting as part of the experience, while remembering that temporary displays can change.

Opening hours and visitor arrangements
The dedicated opening-hours page currently lists Tuesday–Sunday, 09:00–17:00, with Monday and public-holiday closures. Check the museum’s announcements and confirm the last admission directly: its visitor-regulations page contains older closing-time examples that differ from the current timetable. Ticket prices, concessions and exhibition access should be checked before visiting.
Guided tours require an appointment and carry a fee. Request the language you need when booking. For access requirements, ask specifically about the route through the rooms, steps, toilets and garden; the page titled Accessibility mainly provides visitor regulations. The museum also publishes a notice that it operates without fire-safety authorization; read its current visitor information before deciding on your visit.
Finding the correct museum entrance
Head to Kós Károly Street 10 in Sfântu Gheorghe, Covasna. Check the address carefully: the museum also lists Arcade House at Libertății Square 7, which is a separate location. A booking for the main museum should not be assumed to include other exhibition venues or external units.
If arriving by rail or coach, plan the onward journey from the actual station or stop to the museum. Leave a buffer for finding the entrance and dealing with tickets, especially for a timed guided visit. Drivers should confirm parking nearby and avoid planning to stop at the entrance itself without checking local restrictions.
How to fit the museum into a city day
Put the museum in the morning or early afternoon rather than leaving it to the last minutes before closing. Start with an overview exhibition, then choose one theme for a slower visit. Build in time to look at the building and take a garden pause where access is permitted.
Afterwards, continue into the city centre for lunch or a walk. Combine the museum with the fortified Reformed church only if an interior visit has been arranged. Families may prefer one focused exhibition and a shorter visit to trying every room; ask staff which current displays best suit the ages in your group.
Useful booking and photography details
An overnight stay in Sfântu Gheorghe makes it easier to visit without squeezing the museum between transport connections. Prioritise a suitable location and confirm luggage arrangements if checking out before admission. Larger backpacks may need to be left in the cloakroom under the museum’s regulations.
The regulations permit exhibition photography for personal use, prohibit flash and exclude commercial use of those visitor photographs. Ask about permission if producing commercial material.
