The Meziad Cave, one of the oldest and best-known tourist attractions in Romania, was first described by the well-known Austrian geographer Adolf SCHMIDL (1863) and was almost completely explored by Gyula CZÁRÁN at the beginning of the 20th century.
The cave fauna (bats, butterflies, spiders, crustaceans, beetles) housed here and which gives the cave uniqueness was studied for the first time by BOKOR (1921), JEANNEL and RACOVITZA (1929).
Since then, the cave has been and is being studied by scientists from various fields, it was and is being explored by speleologists and visited by those who reach the Bihor lands, in Remetea commune.
